About Me

Where am I?

That’s what you’re probably asking yourself right now. What on Earth is this dinky little, poorly designed, empty-looking website? Well, it’s a blog. Of sorts. Writers are supposed to have blogs, right? Somewhere to dump their ramblings, because they’re not quite good enough, or popular enough, to be paid for their work?

And that’s me. Not quite good enough, not quite popular enough. At least not yet. With any luck, making this website and posting my stories here for people to read will get me somewhere. I don’t think it will. I think this will just be me screaming into an empty, audience-less void, like one of those naked cave-dwellers who mumbles to himself and smears his own shit all over the walls. But having this blog is expected of me. If I’m serious about writing — which I am — I need to do this. I’ve put it off long enough.

And that’s what both of us should bear in mind, going forward. You don’t want to be here, and neither do I. So here’s a cheery story about Christmas lights. Or, if you want to suffer even more, here’s one about murderous rat-people. Take your pick.

Who is Tomasz Gravil, and Why Should I Care?

My name is Tomasz Gravil, and I am a writer. I write short stories, mostly. You’ll find some of them here.

I have been studying Creative Writing at Lancaster University for two years now, so I’m still relatively new to all this. I don’t really have a clue what I’m doing. I’m just winging it, in the hope that one day I might be able to make a living out of writing words.

My favourite writers are Raymond Carver, Shirley Jackson, and Stephen King. I love playing videogames, and moaning about Doncaster Rovers FC.

What Can I Expect to Find Here?

This blog is primarily a place for me to dump my work, to get it out there. So if you subscribe to this blog (please subscribe), expect to see plenty of short stories, from a whole bunch of different genres.

I won’t be posting all of my work on here. Just a few miscellaneous bits and peices. And I can’t promise that its my best work, either. I write a lot of stories, and I’m going to be submitting some of them to literary publications. That means I can only post a few of them here; usually the ones which have already been rejected, or which I don’t quite think are good enough for the big time.

I’m planning on posting a few non-fiction pieces, too. Perhaps some reviews and discussions of books, movies, TV shows, or videogames. Whatever I happen find remotely interesting, and think you might too. I’m also going to do a segment on writing advice. A sort of “Lessons From” segment. There’s a lot of writing advice out there; some of it useful, some of it not. I’ll be offering an opinion as to which is which. You can find the first of these here. It won’t appeal to everyone. It’s more just a way for me to get my head around it all.

I think that’s enough rambling. Enough oversharing. Go and read some of my stories. You might like them. And if you’ve read this far, then you might as well subscribe to be notified of all future updates. Please subscribe.
